Find out what we do when we check how well a
council serves the people who use their social care
services.

What people want from services
The Government asked people who use services about what they
want from services.
From all the information, they came up with 7 main things that
people want from services. These are called
outcomes.
The 7 outcomes are:
- Better health and well being
- Better quality of life
- Making a positive contribution
- Choice and control
- Freedom from discrimination and harassment
- Economic well being
- Personal dignity and respect
What do we do?
We use the outcomes to check how well a council serves the
following groups of people:
- people with mental health problems and people who are dealing
with drugs and alcohol addictions
- people with a learning disability
- older people
- people with physical and sensory needs and those with HIV and
AIDS
- carers.
We give councils an overall rating between 0
stars (worst councils) to 3 stars (best councils) to show how well
they are doing.
This is based on:
- how well they are meeting the outcomes
- whether the council is managed well enough and has the money to
carry on doing well or get better.
