CSCI begins new study into safeguarding
4 March 2008
CSCI is going to carry out a new study into how well people are
protected from abuse or neglect in adult social care.
Our study into safeguarding will look at how good the way
adult social care is provided is at:
- Raising awareness of abuse issues and giving priority to
safeguarding
- Preventing abuse
- Recognising and acting on allegations
- Continually improving safeguarding systems and practice
CSCI already looks at how well people are protected from
abuse or neglect when we inspect regulated services and monitor the
performance of councils. We will review what we have learnt
from doing this and carry out some additional work to gather
more information to help us with this important study.
Finding out about safeguarding from regulatory inspections
CSCI inspectors will be asking some additional questions in key
inspections of care services carried out from 5 to the 16 May.
Between 21 April and 16 May we will also be carrying out some
thematic inspections that focus on safeguarding issues.
These inspections will cover care homes, domiciliary care and
adult placement schemes, across all groups of people using services
and all regions of England.
Experts by experience will work alongside CSCI inspectors
in some of these thematic inspections.
The role of councils
We will also be looking at the role that local councils play in
safeguarding adults using information gathered from council
inspections. We will also consult with people using services and
professionals working in safeguarding in particular council
areas.
