The Healthcare Commissions consultation on Assessment for improvement.
The Healthcare Commission is developing a new approach to
assessing the performance of organisations that provide healthcare
in the NHS and independent sector in England. Consultation on its
proposals ended on 21 February and it has signalled it's intention
that decisions should be made quickly so that healthcare
organisations know how they are going to be assessed for
2005-2006.
The CSCI response to this consultation was discussed at the
commission meeting on 9 February. You can read it in full
below:
The response concentrates on the overall approach outlined in
assessment for improvement. Comments are mainly bout broad
principles and general points relating to the interface between
social care and health and to "whole systems" working.
Comments in the CSCI response are grouped under three main
themes:
- Placing people who use services at the centre
- Bringing our people and processes together
- General methodological and administrative issues
A very high proportion of people who use social care services
also use health services. CSCI believes that an assessment of their
experience across the system is essential. There is a strong
commitment at both operational and strategic levels within CSCI to
continued development of work in partnership with the healthcare
commission.
