Improving the life chances of disabled people report
CSCI's initial response to the Prime Minister's Strategy
Unit report on creating an "opportunity society" for disabled
people
Several Government documents published in the early part of
2005 contribute to the future vision for social care. CSCI will
respond to these as part of our comprehensive response to the Green
Paper on the future of adult social care by the 28 July
deadline.
The report on the Life Chances of Disabled People highlights a
number of issues for disabled children and their families. Services
for children and families don't fall within the scope of the
consultation on the social care Green Paper. So, we have
highlighted these issues in an initial response from CSCI to the
Prime Minister's Strategy Unit.
The response strongly endorses the overall direction outlined in
the strategy and particularly the focus on young people in
transition to adulthood. However, it suggests that the five
outcomes for children are not adequately reflected in the report as
being the Government's overarching priorities for children.
The initial CSCI response to this consultation was discussed at
the commission meeting on 13 April. You can read it in full
